Sandy Point, Md.

Just got home from a sweet 5.8 session at Sandy Point, MD. I hit the water around 5.30 p.m., and sailed for 3 straight hours.

Waves weren't setting up for me, so no forwards to report, although I did hit a few nice floaty jumps that I probably should've rotated.

I'm kicken myself for that, but otherwise, great fun.

I sailed past sunset. The light was circling in the lighthouse.

Look at all the weekend traffic headin' back from the beach to the rat race.

Here is video I shot using the helment cam:

George, How big of a feller are you? When it's averaging 24, I'm going for a 4.7 for sure.

Love sandy point though. I only regret I didn't sail it that much when I lived out there...

I'm about 185lbs depending on the time of day!

George,

How does this spot work for beginners? Looks a little rough...

Aaron, sandy point is a deep water venue, so I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who isn’t comfortable water starting and/or sailing upwind.
With a strong current on the windier days, you could easily find yourself going downwind close to the bridge, so you need to be able to do both very well to stay out of trouble.
Also, the boat traffic on the outside is something you need to pay attention to.
Other than that, the spot is great on NE days. The ramps set up sweet and I’ve gotten some insanely high jumps there!

Ah, I see thanks for the input..I'm a beginner windsurfer living in the Washington DC area. I've been trying to find a good spot to windsurf. I guess I'll throw this one out.
