Gold Medals, Deep Creek Lake, and The Lump

First of all, a HUGE congratulations to the Sonics! My daughters volley ball team won the gold medal at the east coast championships held at Penn State. They are one of the top ranked 12 yr old teams in the country! Amazing!!

On Saturday, Janis and I went up into western Maryland Garret County near Deep Creek Lake for a memorial service. Our late friend Pat Mullaly wanted his ashes spread in a place that he loved to come to. I think he was on to something..

We are so frequently headed to the coast, that its a real eye opener when we go west. I used to love spending time in the mountains. Indeed lived in Stowe, Vermont during my ski-bum period back in the '80s.

Yah, I love my wife

Elevation here is about 2000 feet.

Maryland is such a diverse state

Along the way we stopped at Fort Frederick. Pretty cool place
Cumberland, Maryland

The best barbeque we ever had!

This is their driveway, which had to have been 3 miles long

And this is their house, and the view spans three states: Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvannia

We gathered to celebrate Pat's life

Bart took us off road to see what they call "Flying Rock"

Its called flying rock cuz if you slip, you're gonna be flying.......

Had to have been 200 feet straight down

We miss you Pat.

That's a great way to honor your friend!

I didn't know you used to live up in Stowe... Me too, winters from 97-2006, going to school, skiing, worked at Boots and Boards for a little while... probably the same people there from your days!

I miss the mountains... sometimes... until I catch another wave... then I totally forget!

Hey Andy, at one time, I lived2ski..!

We have a lot in common huh!

I skibummed in Stowe back in the 80s. I could tell you stories of ski patrol chasing me, me running to my truck to change my jacket. You know, they where searching for a guy in a red parka with yellow skis. I’d go change my jacket, and put on a different pair of skis (had two pair slalom and giant slalom) and they couldn’t prove squat! HAHA! Jumped off that frozen waterfall (under the gondola) many times after a big dump.

Climbed up to the chin many times to ski down those chutes. Ahhhhhh Stowe, the beast of the east!! Very similar to Hatteras being the beast that it is.

Used to love Mad River Glen…..ski it if you can! Good stuff man.

Hey, it was at a bar up there (the bar way up just down from the resort-they used to have the bell they bang when you tipped the bartender) for some apre-ski partying that I first saw Warren Miller video which has an interlude for windsurfing. That’s where I got hooked on sailing. I said to myself. When I go back home to Maryland in the spring, I’m gonna learn to windsurf.

I’ve never looked back since. Been sailing since 1988!!

Stoked!
